Bench part II – Cleaved!

After about 20 minutes Sunday, a dozen whacks with the sledge & wedges and a little help from the hatchet, I’m through! In retrospect, I could have probably made it to this point during my first attempt.

The virtually useless center portion on the ground, was supposed to be the legs… I’ll have to split another log for those. Still have a few from the same tree, so I’ll still meet my objective of creating a bench from one tree, the old fashioned way.

Once the time comes to attach the legs I’ll have to scrounge up a brace and bit, either that, or train our paper wasps to tunnel in a perfectly straight line!

But, until then… time to clean up the face. Drawknife, plane, and lord knows what else. No sandpaper though.
